4-H Garden Contest

Dig Into Gardening with 4-H!

Learn about soil, pollinators, seeds and plants while growing your own garden!

The first 10 youth to register at go.ncsu.edu/madison-nc-4h will receive a free seed starter pack to plant a “Three Sisters Garden.” This 4-H kit includes fun lessons and activities for learning out in the garden!

This is a great program for children to experience growing their own food and learn where food comes from. A kid-approved recipe is included in the kit, so you can enjoy healthy eating as a family! Even the pickiest eaters are more willing to try vegetables if they grew them.

Have fun growing this summer…we can’t wait to see your garden pictures!

The Contest!

All youth who register for Madison County 4-H Dig Into Gardening can compete for fame and prizes! The categories are:

  • Tallest stalk of corn
  • Biggest squash*
  • Most green beans harvested at one time
  • Most recipes prepared with garden veggies (one recipe is included in the Dig Into Garden packet)
  • Best all-around garden

*Note: smaller squash is more tender. Consider just letting one squash grow really big.

Winners will be recognized at 4-H Achievement Program for 2020 Projects.

To join the contest, send your pictures to Cathy Brackins, 4-H Program Assistant: cathy_brackins@ncsu.edu

The deadline to submit pictures for the Dig Into Gardening Contest is October 16, 2020.
