Corn Referendum Announcement

(Updated: March 2, 2023, 3 a.m.)

Hello, Madison County farmers!

Coming up on Tuesday, March 14th, 2023, the Corn Grower's Association is hosting a referendum for the assessment of corn sold to first purchasers throughout North Carolina. The current assessment is 1.25 cents per bushel, and the Association is proposing a change to the assessment of 0.30% of the settlement. This will bring the Corn Grower's Association's assessment in line with the other row crop assessments across North Carolina.

This vote is open to all farmers currently engaged in the production of #2 yellow dent corn intended for livestock feed, including tenants, sharecroppers, or other persons involved in the production income of corn. Only one vote is allowed per producer, no matter if they are an individual, or represent a partnership or corporation, and there is no voting by mail, by proxy, or through your county agent.

It will take place from 8:00am-4:30pm at the Madison County Extension Center at 258 Carolina Lane, as well as at the following voter locations at Parker Farm Supply at 1028 US-19, Mars Hill, NC 28754, and at Silver Mill Feed and Supply at 89 Silver Mill Rd, Marshall NC, 28753.
